Celebrate at the Connemara Coast

The Connemara Coast Hotel will host Communion and confirmation lunches this year. An all inclusive package of €28 per adult and €14.50 per child includes a four course lunch, complimentary glass of wine for adults, and glass of mineral for children. Entertainment will also be provided for children on the day. Lunch will take place in the recently updated Daly’s restaurant, where its soft furnishings, rich décor and fine artwork are complemented by magnificent views across the bay.

With yet another award announced earlier this month, Ann Downey General manager and her team at the Connemara Coast Hotel have even more to celebrate right now. Following on their inclusion in the prestigious 2009 Bridgestone 100 Best places to stay in Ireland and their Failte Ireland ‘Best practice/Optimus award’ coupled with the Green Energy Award they received in January, CIE tours have just announced the hotel has won an Award of Excellence from them.

•Club Íománaiochta Bearna/Na Forbacha and Barna Football Club will be hosting its celebrations of the GAA’s 125th anniversary this weekend. The party begins on Saturday in the Connemara Coast Hotel with a celebration dance at 10pm (tickets available on the door). The festivities continues the next day with a special Mass being held in Seipeal Bhearna at 10am where all deceased players and members of the two clubs will be remembered. This will be followed by Lá na gClub at Pairc na bhForbacha where there will be Poc Fada, bouncy castles, face painting, and much more. The weekend will end with teams from both codes of the GAA playing mixed games, ranging from u-14 up to adult.

The launch of a great new recipe book, The Galway Ingredient, prompted me to arrange a date for a chat with Michael O’Meara of Oscar’s Bistro. The Galway Ingredient is a superb book of recipes from the Euro-toques chefs of Galway, and was launched recently to coincide with the Volvo Ocean Race visit to Galway. It costs €5 and is available in Eason’s, Dubray’s, and most local book shops. For his part O’Meara is both a contributor of recipes and the photographer of every picture in the book.

Runway brides at Connemara Coast fair

The Connemara Coast Hotel held its annual wedding fair in the Aran suite on Saturday. The event allowed couples planning their wedding the perfect opportunity to meet with a host of wedding exhibitors who were on hand to provide their advice and expertise on all aspects of planning a wedding. The fashion show was organised by Catwalk Model Agency whose models showcased bridal wear from Belladonna Bridal and Duane Bridal, while Corless Menswear showcased the latest in the grooms’ formal wear.
